Customer Spotlight: Katy Abt

My name is Katy Abt and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a member of the Cincinnati Donauschwaben and I dance with our youth group and Schuplatter group. My grandparents were Donauschwaben and while I have many dirndls from my Oma, my Rare dirndl is one of my favorites.  

My brothers bought my the Love Dirndl, part of the Strength in Pink Collection, as a birthday and graduation present back in 2012. At the time my tante was battling breast cancer. I thought that this was a great way for me to honor her fight and honor my heritage. Unfortunately about a year later my tante lost her fight with breast cancer. I now wear my dirndl in her memory and every time I wear it I think of her. I love what it represents and that proceeds from the dirndl benefit the Young Survival Coalition.

I love Rare dirndl because it mixes the traditional along with the modern. As a schwob it is important to me to always represent my heritage and I feel great while wearing it. I always get compliments whenever I wear my dirndl at Oktoberfests, the Labor Day Treffens, and all other German events. I recently bought two edelweiss wrap bracelets at the Donauschwaben Landestreffen
